It’s no secret that the home based business opportunity industry is growing at an exponential rate. Over $31,000,000,000 in these industries and over 15,000,000 people have already made the smart choice.
When you consider looking for a home based business. When you stop and think about it that’s a virtually untapped marketless than one percent of the population has decided to make the change, fire the boss and start a new life. Imagine for a moment that you just received $10,000,000 and the only stipulation was you couldn’t invest it. Seriously what would you do with that money? Travel, pay off debt, buy your dream home?
I am sure you could do all of that and much more. No let’s come back to current day for a moment, are you financial secure or living paycheck to paycheck, struggling with lifes everyday challenges? Don’t be fooled just because you see someone in a nice car, with a nice house, fancy clothes doesn’t always mean that they are above the problems you face everyday. They have larget debts, bigger problems and face losing more wealth than most people will ever acquire (at least that’s what they think).
You see wealth creation has always been taught by starting to invest in real estate, earn cash flow and appreciation. The real problem is that this is the slow way to acquire wealth. Nothing wrong with slow, yet in todays fast paced society with the instant gratification mindset has really taken our economic structure and made wealth achievement seem like it’s something that should be attained overnight. So back to my opening question, what is it that you are looking for in a home based business? Is it instant riches? If that’s the case your never going to find the opportunity you are looking for unless you happen to win the lottory.
Success isn’t the destination it’s the journey. Everyone you meet, everything you touch and everything you do. Business is no different. You see all of these topics are really the same thing, a concept. Success, failure, business, employee, wealth and poverty all start with a mindset. Why think like someone who is not going to amount to more than just an employee or average Joe when you can think like a champion. You must approach business ownership in the same way.
Here’s the funniest thing I have realized in all of my years of business, I thought I needed a big building, lots of employees and a huge inventory to be a real business. Then I learned about the home based business industry and I tried my hand at over a dozen “opportunities”; making the same mistake over and over again. Much like the opportunity thinker. I drew conclusions that these were not viable businesses instead I chocked it up to nothing more than a bad experience. Let me ask you, “have you had this type of experience in your life?” is it that you have not found what you are looking for or is it that you found it and just don’t know what you want to do with it.
Success in life is simply figuring out what it is that you need and finding a way to create it. Financial success isn’t something out of reach from anyone; it’s about knowing your number, then putting a plan together and making it a reality. Stop looking for the opportunity and take action towards creating the opportunity for yourself. If you never try you will never succeed.
Owning a small or large home based business is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life. Also it can seem like a scary or even uninviting place when you don’t have the proper guidance or leadership for support. Align yourself to win right from the start. Stop looking at every home based business as an opportunity and start looking at it as a tool to propel you towards financial freedom. The opportunity is always present whether you are ready to see it or not. Grasp the wonderful change you are about to experience and hold on to it for all it’s worth.
Hi Ryan:
Good job on getting the blog off the ground! Next step is to get a blog hosted on your OWN domain with your OWN hosting account! One that can drive traffic to YOUR site that offers products that make YOU money.
I am the Dean & Founder of TheIMUniversity.com and the creator of the 30-Day IM Challenge (30DayIMChallenge.com). In the past, I’ve built downlines in excess of 4,500 people so I know a thing or two about network marketing. However, as “The JV Queen” (meaning “The Joint Venture Queen” because of the extremely successful joint ventures I’ve set up for people like Shawn Casey, Tom Bell, David Garfinkel, Russel Brunson, and many others), I also know how to build businesses too. With my background having been an attorney, one thing I know for sure – the one KEY ingredient to building a successful business is to build it STRATEGICALLY, meaning with defining the outcome being the first step and then working your way backwards from the outcome to figuring out how you achieve it.
When you work your way backwards from an outcome, you first define your goals for 3 to 5 years from now. What does life look like at that point? What does the business look like? Other than making a certain amount of money, what else will you achieve through your life and your business?
Once you have these defined, go down the list, one item at a time, and ask “If I want to have that or if I want to be there in 3 to 5 years, what do I need to have and where do I need to be in 1 to 3 years?” This creates a second list.
Go back through it a second time and this time ask the same question but with a time period of 1 day to 1 year. This creates a roadmap that you can follow one small step at a time that leads to your goals EVERY time!
If you have a truly success oriented, abundant mindset along the way, you WILL succeed! It’s by design!
Now — here’s the thing that should become evident in doing this exercise …
Network marketing is NOT the business model, the business, or the business plan. Network marketing is simply one time of compensation structure that can be used to create revenues for a business.
ANY business should be product or service based. This means that the business should concentrate on selling either products or services, not on building downlines. If either:
a) The only way to sell a certain product that achieves the outcomes is through a network marketing company, OR
b) The profit margins of a product sold through a network marketing plan are greater than the profit margins of other products that fit the outcomes of the business,
then by all means, sell products that are provided through a network marketing company! But, if there are other products that provide a higher profit margin, or other products that can be sold that achieve the outcome faster or in a bigger way, then by all means, do NOT limit yourself to network marketing!
Here’s the mistake I see many entrepreneurs making …
They see network marketing companies as a way to solve their technical challenges. Network marketing companies give you a templated website. They give you an autoresponder. Some even let you tie in your own domain name to make you look more individualized.
For those who are not technically advanced, this seems like a great solution! It’s certainly cheaper than going out and hiring someone to set up your website, your opt in pages, and your autoresponder. Or is it?
In the long run, the cost to you to have these “benefits” is that you are likely to have a MUCH lower profit margin on the only sales you can control — your own!
With just about every network marketing company I have ever seen, the “real” money isn’t made for many levels deep. The amount you make on your own sales is minimal at best. As an entrepreneur, you don’t have control over anyone’s actions other than your own. Your downline members might do what you teach them to do. They might not. Even those with the best intentions are often the victim of “life” which has a way of interfering. If you’re doing your job and training them and they’re not pulling their weight to make the sales, you’re stuck making some meager percentage on your own personally referred sales while the people in your upline are thrilled that you happened to be the one-in-a-million who actually did his “job”.
It’s no wonder that so many people fail to achieve high levels of success in network marketing! It’s almost by design that this happens! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
I’m not against network marketing, mind you. I’ve made a pretty penny in it in the past. But it was with a company that paid almost 60% on my own personal referred sales. When they changed their comp plan to go deeper and cut that down to only 20% on my personal referred sales, and 20% on each of the next 2 levels, that’s when I decided to go where the money really was and simply push through my fear of the technology instead.
If you’re someone involved with network marketing right now, ask yourself these questions:
1) Is there another way to sell a similar product that uses an affiliate marketing model? If so, how much would you make per sale? (If the answer is anything more than what you make from your network marketing company, rethink your options.)
2) What is it about network marketing that makes it the right thing for your business? (NOTE: Multiple streams of income can be done with ANY business including affiliate marketing products, your own products, resale rights products, etc. Residual income can likewise occur with ANY business including affiliate marketing products, your own products, resale rights products, etc. Neither are solid reasons for selling products through network marketing.)
3) What are your real goals for your business 3 to 5 years from now? Can you achieve them through a network marketing program that pays you anything less than 60% on your own personally referred sales? (If not, there are MUCH better options available to you!)
Depending upon your answers, network marketing may or may not be the right choice for you. If it is the right choice, then treat it no differently than you would treat any other business. That means that you need your OWN website (not just a site that your opportunity gives you to use and not just a blog on blogger.com, blogspot.com or wordpress.com — but one you host and have control over on your own domain). This is the ONLY way to build a relationship with YOUR customers and prospects!
Remember this: in choosing to work for a network marketing company you are developing relationships for the network marketing company and NOT for yourself! I have yet to see a single network marketing company that allows you to build your own list from your actual buyers. Sure, they mail to them on your behalf. But what if you decide to create a product of your own? Will you have a way to contact them then or will you have to start all over? What if you decided to sell your business tomorrow. What assets will be included in that sale if you have no customer list or subscriber list of your own? Will you be doing all this work for yourself or for your network marketing company?
These are the kinds of questions that EVERY entrepreneur needs to ask himself or herself. In some cases, even affiliate marketing isn’t the right solution either. It depends on the answers to these questions.
If you truly want to be rid of a J.O.B. (“just over broke”) permanently and you want to be the master of your own destiny, there are really only a few models that achieve this: having your own products; owning resale rights to products that you sell; or selling products that are in the public domain. All of the other options still give at least some element of control to someone other than you, the entrepreneur.
The topic of diversifying your revenue is one that I discussed at length with my good friend, Joel Block, on my radio show, “Relationship Marketing 101″, just last week. Feel free to listen to it at:

Whatever you decide is right for you, I wish you abundant success!
